Thursday, October 17, 2019 – Local Lodge 708 members on a 19-day unfair labor strike against Sherwin-Williams have ratified a new four-year agreement!
Local 708 negotiators and Sherwin-Williams have reached a proposed tentative agreement. Local 708 members will vote on the proposed agreement this Thursday, October 17, 2019, at 10:00 am in Machinists Hall at District Lodge 70, 3830 S. Meridian, Wichita, KS 67217.

The date and time have been confirmed, the Local 708 negotiating committee will be returning to the negotiating table with the company this coming Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Stand strong!

Saturday, October 5-6, 2019 – There will be no work being performed at Sherwin-Williams this weekend therefore, the Union and the company have agreed to suspend the strike line for Saturday and Sunday this week. The strike line will resume at 5:00 am Monday morning.

September 26 – Day 30 – The members only Ratification Vote has been scheduled for Saturday, September 28. Doors open at 11:30 am, the meeting starts at 12:00 pm sharp. The meeting is to review the company’s last, best and final offer, and then members will have a two-part vote to accept or reject the offer, then to strike or not to strike. Every Local 708 member working at Sherwin Williams in Andover needs to be in this meeting!
September 25 – Day 29 – We can only hope that Sherwin Williams will do right by their employees, but the negotiating committee recommends that members tie up any loose ends by the end of the week!
September 24 – Day 28 – Your Local and District negotiators continue to work with the Federal Mediators toward finding a way to obtain a fair agreement for members. The current agreement with Sherwin Williams expires this Saturday, September 28, 2019, at 12:01 a.m. We will notify you of the ratification vote within 24 hours of the contract expiration.
September 21 – Day 25 – We will not be underestimated! We deserve a GOOD contract! The last line of defense is to withhold our labor if an agreement cannot be reached. We hope that doesn’t happen, but we WILL do what we have to in order to obtain a GOOD contract! Our current agreement with Sherwin Williams Manufacturing in Andover, KS will expire on September 28, 2019, at 12:01 AM.
September 19, 2019, Day 23 – The hardworking employees at the Sherwin Williams Manufacturing Plant in Andover, Kansas produce a lot of wealth for the company and we deserve a GOOD contract!
September 18, 2019, Day 22 – The company continues to lag when responding to counter-proposals or flat out rejecting the union counter-proposals. The negotiating committee is feeling like the company doesn’t want an agreement with the union at all. Members UNITE! WE WILL STRIKE IF PROVOKED!
September 16, 2019, Day 21 – Negotiations with Sherwin Williams Manufacturing have made some progress with Federal Mediation. We hope to finish non-economic items on Thursday, September 17, to begin negotiating economics. As we stand united, we stand strong!
September 12, 2019, Day 12 – The Local 708 negotiating team has returned to the negotiating table today with Federal Mediators. We will update you to any progress, as we can.
September 6, 2019, Day 11 – The IAM has requested Federal Mediation after the company continues to insist on a “all or nothing” approach to negotiations. “The IAM supports our Local 708 members at Sherwin-Williams Manufacturing in Andover, Kansas and we will continue to fight for justice on the job,” said District 70 Business Representative and Chief Negotiator, Tyson Kelly.

September 3, 2019, Day 8 – District and Local negotiators met with employees at Sherwin Williams at the Andover facility on Tuesday to give an update on the progress (or lack of) with the company so far. Negotiations resume Wednesday morning, Sept. 4th. The hard working people at Sherwin Williams Manufacturing deserve a good contract!

Local Lodge 708 *STRIKE UPDATE: FSSC Makes a Return-to-Work Offer. Members of Local 708 have voted 100% of those in attendance, to “Accept” a “Return-to-Work Agreement.” The agreement includes a five (5) month cooling off period and both parties agree to negotiate in good faith towards a new collective bargaining agreement with the expectation to return to the bargaining table on or before May 20, 2019. * Note: It is impressive that every vote members have made up to this point, have been 100% in unity! A true testament of union solidarity!
Almost 10 weeks now on strike these IAM Machinists are certainly ready for the awaited Department of Labor’s ruling of favor of or not for the inclusion of Service Contract Act language into the contract agreement between FlightSafety Services Corp. and the United States Air Force that Kansas Governor Laura Kelly reported would be out by Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Members are ready to get back to the negotiating table and negotiate a fair and decent collective bargaining agreement between them and FlightSafety Services Corporation. IAM members of Local Lodge 708 on strike against FlightSafety Services Corporation have spoken clearly with a 100% vote to REJECT another “Return-to-work” offer from FlightSafety Services Corp! These members not easily swayed, knowing they are doing the right thing! The strike continues. (The “return to work” offer is a “memorandum of agreement” that would allow strikers to go back to work under certain conditions for a determined amount of time and then return to the negotiating table.) – Day 40 on strike
