Sisters and Brothers,
Today marks the 133rd year since the founding of our great union.
The past year has presented us with many obstacles, but just like our founders in that railroad pit 133 years ago, IAM members stand united as one to achieve a larger goal.
During last year’s IAM anniversary, I presented a message of hope and a testimony to the strength of our union, despite the significant challenges we have faced.
Today, I can report that our union has remained strong. Our history has shown us that the only way we grow and prosper as a union is to stand together in solidarity with one voice. We owe it to our founders who risked their lives to join together in that Atlanta railroad pit 133 years ago. And just like 133 years ago, our mission remains the same—justice on the job for every working man and woman.
I am optimistic about our future, even as we climb out of this historic pandemic. Vaccinations have given us hope, but we won’t let our guard down. We will continue to demand that IAM members stay safe in the workplace so they can return home safely to their loved ones.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the family and friends of those we have lost over the past year. We will honor their legacy and carry them close to our hearts.
The labor movement is at a pivotal point in North America. IAM members will play a crucial role in helping grow our union and stand up to help IAM members lead a better life.
The history of our great union shows us that a brighter future is possible. We will continue to stand together and carry out the mission of our union.
Stay safe, stay strong, stay united—together, in solidarity, we will prevail.
In solidarity,
Robert Martinez Jr.
International President
