Black History Month Profiles: Deborah Barber
This year, for Black History Month, we’re taking a look at a group of leaders who are currently active making Black history across the labor movement. Check back daily for a new profile and meet some of the people working to improve not only their community, but also to improve conditions for working people across the country. Today’s profile is Deborah Barber of AFSCME.
Deborah Barber is not only a devoted In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) provider to members of her community, but during her limited spare time she goes above and beyond to help her community’s most vulnerable members. She volunteers at her local homeless shelter, and prepares, packs and distributes meals and hygiene kits to unhoused and older members of her community.
