he federal government remains shut down, and your Union wants to hear how this shutdown is directly or indirectly affecting members by sharing their experiences.
Thousands of IAM Union and NFFE-IAM members work for federal agencies, federal contractors, or in industries heavily reliant on federally funded projects. A government shutdown means missed paychecks, halted contracts, delayed maintenance, and widespread uncertainty for working families.
“The IAM Union strongly urges a bipartisan funding solution, negotiated in good faith between Democrats and Republicans, to end this shutdown,” said IAM Union International President Brian Bryant. “A shutdown is unjust, cruel, and devastating to working families, and we will never stand by while our members are used as leverage for political gain. The IAM also strongly condemns the White House’s threat to use a shutdown as a means to justify illegally firing scores of federal workers.”
If you are an IAM or NFFE-IAM federal worker or federal contractor member who has been furloughed, missed a paycheck, or experienced work disruptions due to the shutdown, whether you work for a federal contractor, a defense facility, the VA, FAA, or any other federally funded employer. Your story is important.
Your voice will help your Union fight for a government that serves working people, rather than using them as pawns.
Your IAM National and Legislative team is working tirelessly on Capitol Hill to defend our members, push for a swift end to the shutdown, and secure long-term protections for workers.
We stand in solidarity with every impacted worker and demand accountability from the lawmakers who created this crisis.
What Members Can Do Now
In addition to preparing personal finances to cover bills and other expenses, here’s what you can do to stay strong and prepared:
- Report to work as usual unless you receive an official written furlough notice. Without it, missing work could mean an unexcused absence.
- Stay connected. Sign up for IAM and NFFE-IAM email updates using your personal email address so you never miss important shutdown information.
- Lean on your union. The IAM and NFFE-IAM will continue to fight for you every single day on Capitol Hill and in your workplace. You are not alone.
