Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Friends of the IAM,
This weekend, and every day, we remember and honor all those who gave their lives for our freedom and the promise of freedom to people around the world. It is a day to remember our fallen servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of the freedoms we enjoy.
The IAM has a special connection to our military – many IAM members are veterans. Thousands of our members also work in the civilian defense sector, supporting the missions of our military men and women. Even thousands more work in the aerospace industry, building the finest high-tech equipment our military needs to do their jobs. The Machinists Union is proud of the work we do to keep our military and our country safe.
We also owe a great debt of gratitude to our Sisters and Brothers in Canada who have given their lives protecting the values we share.
We have the right to unionize because there are brave men and women who have left their families, put themselves in harm’s way, and in some cases, given their lives to protect our freedoms. We must remember their service and honor their memory.
In solidarity,
Robert Martinez Jr.
IAM International President
