WASHINGTON, June 8, 2021 – Robert Martinez Jr., International President of the 600,000-member International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), released the following statement regarding the Biden administration’s review of U.S. supply chains.
“The Machinists Union welcomes the Biden administration’s ‘Building Resilient Supply Chains, Revitalizing American Manufacturing, and Fostering Broad-Based Growth’ report issued today in conjunction with its 100 day review under Executive Order 14017. The review is a giant leap forward in building back better U.S. manufacturing jobs that continue to be hard hit since the beginning of the pandemic.
“The recommendations in the review provide realistic and effective measures for rebuilding our supply chains and creating jobs here at home in the industries of the future. Among other recommendations, we applaud efforts to strengthen the application of Buy American laws, examine the Export-Import Bank’s ability to further support domestic manufacturing, and a commitment to ensure new industries adhere to high labor standards that include employer neutrality agreements.
“We look forward to working with the Biden Administration on implementing these recommendations and devising new ones specifically created to build back better U.S. aerospace, manufacturing and transportation jobs.”
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is among the largest industrial trade unions in North America and represents nearly 600,000 active and retired members in the manufacturing, aerospace, defense, airline, railroad, transportation, shipbuilding, woodworking, health care, and other industries.
