This year, for Black History Month, we’re taking a look at a group of leaders who are currently active making Black history across the labor movement. Check back daily for a new profile and meet some of the people working to improve not only their community, but also to improve conditions for working people across the country. Today’s profile is A.J. Starling of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU).

Over the past five decades, A.J. Starling has established himself as a well-known face and a powerful voice for Tennessee’s working families. From his earliest days as a bus driver in Nashville, to his ascension to the top ranks of Tennessee’s labor leadership, his commitment to the fight for economic and racial equality is unmatched. His passionate dedication to his work as a public servant in his community has resulted in a lasting impact that will be felt for generations.
